Art Program
The AMASE art curriculum introduces elements, vocabulary, and skills of art in K-9 program levels according to the California Standard Curriculum. Classes are divided into 3 levels: fundamental, intermediate, and advanced.
I. Art Fundamental Course1. Introduce the elements of arts
II. Art Intermediate Course1. Teach the elements of art
III. Art Advanced CourseThis course is designed to prepare students for exhibitions and professional careers. In the advanced course, students choose their own materials to express their thoughts in their own way. Teachers support developing skills and techniques in a small-group setting. Students will keep on learning the aesthetic, historic, and cultural contexts in art.
I. Art Fundamental Course1. Introduce the elements of arts
- Learn basic concepts of art such as color, line shapes, and texture through drawing, painting, collage, and clay
- Identify colors; this includes recognizing primary/secondary colors, warm/cold colors, and other various types of colors in our life
- Study shapes; this includes drawing shapes in 2D and 3D, and identifying shapes within objects.Learn basic concept of art such as color, line shape, and texture
- Use various art materials including pencil, oil pastel, color pencil, tempera paint, oriental paint, and clay
- Learn how to draw self-portraits, still life, landscapes, etc.
- Learn contour figure, drawing in pointillism, collage, and water color
- Use the proper colors, lines, and shapes for different feelings, and also draw simple patterns to create rhythm and movement
- Learn about perspective by using different sizes of objects to make space
- Learn about shading to create volume
- Discover stories in and about art
- Listen to music and express in art
II. Art Intermediate Course1. Teach the elements of art
- Learn how to use value and texture to make realistic art
- Learn about complementary colors (such as red/green, orange/blue, and yellow/violet), the value of color (dark/light), and the tints and shades of color by adding black or white
- Learn about the concept of space by using perspective line drawing
- Learn about shapes in negative/positive forms
- Create art pieces while using different materials for one project
- Decide on their own materials to express their thoughts and feelings effectively.Create art work with different materials in one project
- Use shades to express 3D shapes
- Understand the concept of proportion
- Learn perspective to create the illusion of space
- Learn how to balance within an art work
- Learn about artists, musicians, and writers from the same era
- Create an art piece connected with current culture.
III. Art Advanced CourseThis course is designed to prepare students for exhibitions and professional careers.
